Recognising the sweeping movement towards all things digital, the National Museum has just launched a brand new gallery on Level 1, called Gallery10, that focuses entirely on digital art.

The first installation taking up residency: Art of the Rehearsal by fast-rising multidisciplinary artist, Sarah Choo Jing, in collaboration with commercial cinematographer Jeffrey Ang.

Featuring a video montage of the alleyways of three different districts in Singapore (Chinatown, Little India and near the CBD), Choo was inspired by local dancers from different ethnicities rehearsing before their performances.

Struggling to come up with a common theme (besides the fact that they’re all dancers), she finally came up with her epiphany while watching the different groups rehearse – while they may be of different ethnic groups, everyone puts in tremendous time and effort while rehearsing – hence the title of the installation.

This is the only permanent showcase for now, but there are more collaborations in progress in the upcoming months.
