5 kitchen appliances that make cooking more convenient
OPTIMUM KITCHEN MACHINE BY BOSCH
Unlike cooking, where adding ingredients to-taste works wonderfully, baking requires precise measurements and careful calculations. The latest version of Optimum features updated sensor technology and built-in weighing function that will tell you to add (or remove) your ingredients according to the target weight. Simply enter the desired weight, and an acoustic signal will notify you when you’re almost there. The Optimum will also stop automatically once egg whites and dough have reached the perfect consistency.
The Optimum kitchen machine retails for $2,099, and is available at Tangs and the Bosch Experience Centre, 11 Bishan Street 21, tel: 6356-1080.
LINEA PYROLYTIC OVEN SFP140 BY SMEG
This oven not only cleans itself by heating food residues into ash, but its Smart Sense function also helps cook dishes to perfection. It tells you the best shelf position, temperature and time required for the recipe once the food type and weight are keyed in. There is also an ecologic mode which reduces power consumption by 10 per cent, and an all-around heating mode that makes it easier to bake, defrost and warm your food.
The Smeg SFP140 pyrolytic oven retails for $3,980, and is available at APS Lifestyle, tel: 6233 0593, firstname.lastname@example.org.
INDUCTION SPHERICAL POT RICE COOKER BY TEFAL
Inspired by traditional methods of cooking rice over the fire, Tefal’s spherical and induction pot is orbed at a 62-degree angle at the brim and bottom, creating an all-around heating convection so rice grains are swirled circularly rather than vertically – this creates perfectly cooked and fluffy rice, down to the grain. This cooker can be used to prepare white, brown and glutinous rice, as well as congee, soups and perfectly rounded cakes.
The Tefal spherical pot rice cooker retails for $449 and is available at leading electrical and department stores.
THERMO SPOON BY WMF
Have your steak cooked just the way you like it, to the exact degree and doneness, with this meat thermometer and tasting spoon. It alerts the user with an acoustic signal once the desired temperature is reached.
The thermo spoon by WMF retails for $99.90 and is available at selected WMF concept stores at BHG Bugis, Isetan Scotts, Robinsons The Heeren and more.
EXCALIBUR 9-TRAY DEHYDRATOR
Dehydration preserves food in its natural flavour and aroma without chemical preservatives. Reap from this age-old technique with the Excalibur dehydrator, which features nine trays – each provides a generous 15sqf of drying space – and a convenient 26-hour timer so you don’t have to readjust your dehydrator frequently. You can use it to make everything from dried fruit to beef jerky; its BPA-free, polyscreen trays prevent foods from sticking, so washing up will be a cinch.
The Excalibur 9-tray dehydrator retails for $699 and is available at Tott, www.tottstore.com.
