8 ideas for chic dining areas in modern contemporary homes
Laura Gonzalez, an interior designer based in Paris, recently completed her latest project: Alcazar, an elegant restaurant that is so spacious, Laura can experiment with multiple looks — though it all came together harmoniously! Here are seven looks or ideas you can take from Alcazar.
Idea #1: In an open concept home, you can use a foldable screen to cordon off the dining area from the living space.
Idea #2: Instead of classic wainscoted walls, paint a two-toned wall for a more moden and simplified effect.

Idea #3: If your dining room seems a little empty and cold, but you're not one for soft furnishing or knick knacks, opt for large potted plants. It helps frame the room and give a hint of nature!
Idea #4: You don't need six to eight individual dining chairs. Match two to three dining chairs with long benches.
Idea #5: If you already have colourful furnishings, choose black and white paintings or photographs to neutralise the look.
Idea #6: Red is a good colour for dining rooms — it whets the appetite and adds warmth to the room. Match it with neutral tones like white, black, and cream.
Idea #7: Want a dramatic and moody look? Alcazar created it by matching deep forest green with muted olive green. The white marble (and perfect lighting, of course) helps brighten the space.
Idea #8: Another beautiful colour combination: rusty pink and deep maroon.
