H&D Hotlist #105: New design products, furniture and accessories
Concrete has long been associated with brutalism – not so much with softness and poetry. British lighting brand Astro has achieved the feat of creating poetically minimalist lighting objects using concrete!
The Eclipse wall light collection comprises a smooth disc or a square that appears to float, eclipsing the LED light bulb and creating a soft glow that blends into its surrounding just like its celestial event namesake.
Each Eclipse product is made of concrete that’s been combined with weatherproof additives, resulting in a durable and robust product with natural imperfections that lends an artisanal dimension. To clean the disc, rinse with water and gently brush.
Astro products are distributed in Singapore by Genesis Lighting, Lim Kim Hai, Koizumi, Lightimage, Luxlight and Made & Make, price upon request. Visit Astro Lighting or more information.
What does the seabed look like from the eyes of a fish? This whimsical musing of ceramic artist Coralla Maiuri led to an exquisite table collection called Corallo.
The collection features confetti-like organic motifs in blue, red, and yellow dots in a white background brushed with the softest blue, painting a soft, abstract picture of the seabed.
Coralla Maiuri tableware is available online, and in-store from selected international retailers, price starts from US$160 (about $215) for a teacup. Visit Coralla Maiuri for more information.
Backlit marble has emerged as the new trend that takes the luxe factor up a notch. Taking inspiration from this trend, Spanish innovative surface brand Cosentino has expanded its Silestone Artika series – the colour family of Silestone inspired by the arctic – with a new shade called Polaris. Featuring dark grey background and delicate white veins inspired by onyx and quartzites, Polaris possesses a translucent quality that emits a soft glow when it’s backlit.
