WRITTEN IN STONE
Staying true to its design philosophy, Hermes unveiled a small collection of handmade wares at the recent Milan Design Week. They ranged from woven baskets with leather trims to bedlinen lined with gold threads and the Lignage d’Hermes stone table, hewn from a single slab of bluestone.
Designed by Bijoy Jain, founder of architecture firm Studio Mumbai, the low table features a solid stone construction with straight lines extending from the centre and down the sides.
Its simplified silhouette draws attention to the sensual texture of the material, while the hand-carved lines showcase the intricate relationship between the artist and the medium.
When placed in the living room, its quiet presence is captivating and awe-inspiring.
The Lignage d’Hermes stone table is available from www.hermes.com/sg/en; price upon enquiry. For more information, call 6933-3222.
