Home & Decor Singapore pays tribute to three decades of design with a look back on its most interesting features over the years.
This week we look at ex-Balenciaga model Bessie del Castillo’s lofty apartment home on Grange Road.
When Filipino Bessie and her husband moved to their home in the Colonnade, they engaged the aid of Manila-based architect Raymond Fuentes to design the interior of their apartment. Raymond is well-known for his use of flamboyant colours like fiery reds, which is evident in the study. The bamboo daybed was made in the Philippines.
Bessie graced the July 1988 cover of Her World magazine.
Bessie and her daughter, Blanca.
The black lacquered table with gold leaf inlay was designed by Bessie's sister. Behind it hangs one of Bessie's Chinese brush paintings.
The apartment in the Colonnade has a distinctive architectural style, with soaring marble columns and high ceilings. The painting of frolicking horses above the sofa is by Bessie.
The reclining chairs designed by Raymond, are of natural bamboo, upholstered in parachute cloth.
Fully mirrored wardrobes run along the wall of the master bedroom.
This beautiful dining table belonged to Bessie's husband's grandfather. And it's an heirloom that looks right with a table setting that is contemporary and chic. The mirror at the far end was designed by Raymond and its adds a strong finishing touch.
