They may be working in the banking industry, but they are goofy people, says interior design firm Wolf Woof’s design director, Carmen Tang, of her easygoing clients.
Homeowners of this 786 sq ft (sqm) Tampines condominium, Van Lim (pictured above) and Jin Tan, who are in their 30s, wanted something fun and different, and left it to the interior designer to translate their personalities into a home design.
$40,000 Renovation budget
The result of the $40,000 renovation is a cheerful, adventure-themed abode featuring quirky bespoke decor and inspiring illustrations.
The homeowners also consulted a Feng Shui master, who laid down some dos and don’ts to ensure harmony in the home.
Road trip themed interior design
The interior designer created quirky customisations for the living room, from the mountain decal to the van’s flip-up breakfast table and side lamp.
The van’s chair even features a bicycle bell and handgrips.
Carmen opted for softer silhouettes and a hand-drawn style, as advised by the Fengshui master, setting the tone for a cheerful adventure theme.
Yellow vintage camper van
After much thought on colour – red represents fire and does not fit with the home’s Feng Shui, while cream and brown seemed underwhelming for the home – Carmen chose a bright sunshine yellow for the camper “van”.
“It brightens the wood-and-white home, and gives it a youthful spark,” she says.
Raised floor storage
Carmen’s space-saving methods are just one of the many things the homeowners like about her firm. The home features a storage platform, a hidden spice rack and concealed doors.
Vespa Decoration
The quirky desk, which was modified from an Ikea table, was inspired by Van’s wish to ride a Vespa.
“I’ve always wanted to ride one, but we already drive and my parents discourage it,” says Van.

Complementing the Vespa desk is a motorbike helmet lamp, which was customised by Verde Light.
Carmen says: “These fun bespoke elements reflect the personality of the homeowners. Clients deserve more than just recycled ideas.”
Taobao Home Decor
As the extensive decal work took up a chunk of their budget, the couple shopped for decor from affordable retail stores such as Ikea and Taobao. This includes the pegboard and tables.
