The homeowners of this five-room BTO unit in Ang Mo Kio, a newlywed, tasked Eugene Lee from Shijin Design Consultancy to create a spacious and functional matrimonial home they can raise their then newborn in.
Their brief? Interesting tiles and lots pops of green.
Hafary Wood Tiles
The couple is fond of timber flooring, but opted for wood-look tiles instead as they find these easier to maintain and not as costly.
Tiles in this home were purchased from Hafary.
The half-height window in the kitchen allows the parents to keep an eye on their child.
Formica Laminate
“I suggested a strong saturated green shade for the kitchen; as you can see the kitchen from the living and dining rooms, a punch of colour helps balance out the neutral hues used throughout the home,” says Eugene.
The laminates were purchased from Formica.
White mosaic tiles
As weekend family lunch and dinners are a weekly affair, the kitchen was kept enclosed.
To match the HDB-issued white kitchen floors, while still introducing some visual interest, the couple chose a white patterned mosaic backsplash.
Luggage storage space
Eugene converted the bedroom adjacent to the master bedroom into a walk-in wardrobe space.
The flushed wall door was designed specifically for luggages!
Wainscoting wardrobe
The designer and couple shopped for handles, such as those on the wardrobe and bathroom cabinetry, to match the wood-panelled wardrobe.
Renovation budgeting tip
“To achieve a unique look without burning a hole in your pocket, partition your budget by spending a larger portion on spaces that you will use frequently. Certain looks are more expensive than others, so instead of telling the designer about a certain look, you should work the budget to reflect your personalities and lifestyles instead,” advises Eugene.
