Home to a couple and their two young kids, this inter-terrace landed house was given a new lease of life when the homeowners approached Hsu Hsia Pin of Ehka Studio to refurbish the interiors of the house.
Their brief included the need for additional rooms, such as a kid's play area at the living room on the ground floor, and a separate wet (outdoor) and dry (indoor) kitchen, and an open-concept study. They also wanted a kitchen island, which is visually connected to the rest of the living spaces.
Full-width steps were introduced; the steps stretched end to end to create more visual connection between the levels. Some of the steps have also been designed as storage drawers for the kid's toys.
"The selected materials were light wood flooring, light wood cabinets, white and grey walls, and white marble-look quartz tops. The interiors were kept light-coloured so light will filter through the space," Hsia Pin shares of the materials and colour palette.
As part of the $350,000 renovation, more windows have been added into the interiors to allow more natural light to penetrate deep into the rooms.
"The kitchen was reposition to make the dry kitchen open to the back garden whilst having a visual link to the rest of the house, allowing the wife to keep an eye on her children while preparing meals," Hsia Pin says.
The wood dining table was customised from Grey and Sanders, and complemented with dining chairs from Castlery.
Hsia Pin also customised many niches to ensure there is sufficient storage space for the owners' collection of books.
