House Tour: A chinoiserie-chic home with gold accents in Fernvale

by Melody Bay  /   February 24, 2020

When Belle got the keys to her 122sqm home in High Park Residences, she knew what she wanted – a home with chinoiserie details and gold accents, and plenty of storage space. She approached Shermaine of MOW Interior, who designed and styled a space for her that was both glamorous and practical.

A large, open cabinet featuring shelves of varying heights takes centrestage in the living room. To lend visual interest, Shermaine added a pair of doors with vertical slits as an accent. The dark wood of this feature wall visually anchors the glass-and-metal elements in the space, tying the look together.

The open shelves display some of Belle’s most cherished mementos and art pieces, while the pair of doors provides concealment for electronics. Shermaine left no detail unattended – even the handles were specially ordered in order to suit the home aesthetic.

Art is one of Belle’s hobbies, so Shermaine created a recreation room for her. Double sliding doors, clad in hand-painted wallpaper, slide shut to conceal her workstation. The room itself is segregated from the living room with a bi-fold door, which can be opened to create a larger space for gatherings when her friends come over.

The same hand-painted wallpaper forms the feature wall in the master bedroom. Rich fabric textures like velvet create a luxurious ambience, set off with gold accents and pastel hues.

One of the rooms was converted into a custom walk-in wardrobe, complete with built-in lighting, to house the owner’s sartorial collection. Full height mirrors visually expand the space, while a chandelier and high-pile carpet instantly add glamour.
