The presence of a deep blue hue amidst a light wood-and-white space makes for a striking visual effect. We see it here, in this 1,430sqft penthouse apartment in London, which belongs to a Hong Kong-based jewellery designer and her family.
Designed by Studio Ulanowski, the apartment is both sensible and stylish. Fluted timber is paired with slabs of grey terrazzo in the bespoke kitchen, and gleaming brass and copper add hints of sophistication.
The cabinetry was designed to wrap around the walls, including a long run of cabinetry and into the living area. "The modular sofa can be configured in endless iterations while the dining table can be turned around and extended, blurring the boundary between kitchen, dining, and living," says the studio.
Hints of blue extend to one of the common bedrooms, where a wooden shelving system offers both hidden and open storage, as well as a study area.
Blue subway tiles, laid vertically, create the illusion of higher ceilings.
In the second common bedroom, printed curtains add zest to a simply designed room with soothing neutral hues. We love the idea of a concealed study area, too!
A perforated staircase of anodised aluminium, by Joseph Waller Fabrications, leads up to the master bedroom. This vibrant shade of blue adds a playful twist to the home.
Slatted timber (and two-toned walls) are a repetitive design element in the home; though in different colours and spaces, this keeps the overall design coherent. In the centre of the master bedroom sits a bespoke bed in deep forest green by Portuguese craftsman Pedro da Costa Felgueiras. The headboard is lacquered with gold, silver, and copper!
"[The bedroom is] lined with soft and scented cedar wood walls, while the bathroom features copper hardware, giant marble terrazzo, and handmade Moroccan tiles," says the studio.
The rustic surfaces of these copper accents is both down-to-earth as well as luxurious!
