Shifting to a terrace house wasn't just about more floor space for this couple — it also meant a new, improved aesthetic. The homeowners worked with Woon Ng of W2DA to do the alteration and expansion of their property. The exposed staircase is structural and functional yet also a decorative element in the living room.
Designer chairs by Hans Wegner and Antonio Citterio jazz up the dining area and kitchen.
The guest room has its own private access through a back window as well as an internal one through the home.
To keep the stairwell bright from the roof deck down, Woon opted for glass, handrails and floating stair treads without any risers (the vertical section between steps).
Woon's use of natural materials like wood for the architectural finishes means a largely neutral palette for the interiors. Wood panels conceal the study and walk-in closet.
A ceiling-hung entertainment console helps divide the sleeping and storage areas in the master bedroom.
Black mosaic-style tiles add a visual and tactile touch to the monochromatic master bathroom.
The roof deck has outdoor seating, a kitchen sink and worktop as well as a barbecue pit for outdoor entertaining.
