There is incredible detail in every corner of this five-room flat, from the two different black-and-white tiles that greet visitors at the entrance to oriental furniture with traditional features like metal hinges. This decorative Chinoiserie style is the result of a collaborative effort between interior designer and the homeowner.
"I am half-Peranakan, and have always been drawn to loud colours and the Oriental style, with a French twist. My designer picked out several prints with butterflies, birds and flowers like peonies and engaged a Chinese artist to illustrate three murals, including the floral motif in the master bathroom,' says the owner. In this home, a plush curved velvet sofa is the highlight of the living room, while spiky brass chandeliers added a bold, contemporary touch to the Oriental-style painting and cabinets in the dining area.
This style extends to the powder room where a blue-andbronze sakura blossom wallpaper, and mirrored cabinetry, were paired for a luxurious ambience. “We wanted an elegant surprise effect upon entering, with the idea to create a soft-toned jewellery box,” shares the Design Intervention team. The de Gournay St. Laurent Chinoiserie wallpaper features a colourful oriental garden scene. Its design was inspired by a set of antique panels in the Paris apartment of Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Berge.
