Occupying a 550 sq ft unit in B2 at 313 Somerset, homegrown fragrance brand SIX’s new boutique could be mistaken for a chic restaurant, thanks to its sandstone-pink interior, sculptural tables and hip bar stools. While it doesn’t serve food, it does offer a rich, multisensorial experience that soothes our other senses.

Designed by multidisciplinary artists Clara Yee and Gerald Low of creative studio In The Wild, its interior promotes wellness through a combination of scents, artworks, textures and colours that give it a spa-like ambience that serves as a sanctuary away from the mall.
SIX founder Jason Lee says, “We invite guests to escape the mall, to unwind and to just be in the moment.”
“It is meant to soothe the senses,” adds Clara. “The space references the contours of a cave through various textures and an earthy, calming palette of natural materials.”
The stucco texture of the pink walls, the curved edges of the furniture and the installations made with fabric, paper and clay combine to create an organic feel. Drawing from Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, which invites one to be free from relying on just one’s five senses, Clara and Gerald were philosophical with the concept and divided it into three zones representing consciousness, memories and the in-between area.
Featuring floating islands that allude to landforms and a mesmerising digital installation that doubles as promo screen, the boutique’s front section represents the topography of the land before the cave.
SIX’s scent nebuliser is cleverly incorporated into the installation, adding visual drama while giving walk-in customers a whiff of the products inside.
In one corner, a table with rounded corners and marble laminate hosts consultations and build-your-own-scent workshops.
The middle of the boutique represents the transition zone and features an installation patchwork of sheer and opaque fabrics that resembles, Clara says, “a moss-covered cave entrance with a trickle of light passing through it.”
Niches along the wall here display SIX’s ambient scents.
Behind the installation is a cosy sitting area decorated with linen and cotton throws and cushions from local designer Stacy Tan of Yabai Yabai that invites customers to experience SIX nebulisers in a home setting.
Towards the back is the scent station with a series of handcrafted diffusers made with cement, plaster and a terracotta mix. Each is fitted with a glass nozzle that dispenses the scent. Each curio in the boutique works in tandem with an ambient scent to stimulate and unearth customers’ unique memories.
“To achieve harmony and bring positivity into our lives, we sometimes need to tap into our deeper senses,” says Clara. SIX does just that in more than one way.
