If you want to keep your furniture simple, but still want some colour and patterns in your home, try patterned tiles. They are decorative without taking up space, and there are plenty of ways to incorporate them into the design of your house. This HDB flat in Marine Drive executes this concept nicely!

Designed by interior designers The Scientist, the flat's dining, living, and bedroom area is kept connected – but open – with framed glass doors.  The openness also allows a lot of natural light in.

The homeowners made a bold move and chose mismatched tiles for the kitchen. We see four different patterns in one area, but the simply-designed refridgerator and stove – as well as the tiles' similar motifs and palatte – keeps things balanced.

These photo frames against the white washed wall features the owner's beautifully captured images from around the world. It is a conversation starter, and a nice break from the heavily-patterned kitchen.

More tiles in the toilet floors, shower, and backsplash. It is also a great way to separate wet and dry areas.
