A new boutique furniture store called Hewn has opened in Bishan, specialising in furniture and home accessories that pair wood and marble. It was set up three months ago by three friends. It is now run by only two of the original founders.

They sell items such as benches, stools, coffee tables (pictured), dining tables, poufs and kitchenware items such as bowls, all of which are sourced from manufacturers in China and Indonesia.

Prices range from $9 for a small wooden bowl to $3,799 for the Hadrian Dining Table that has a top made from a slab of white marble and trestle legs out of recycled teak.

Later this year, Hewn will release its first collection of furniture designed by the owners with Singapore-based craftsmen.

Where: Hewn, 3 Pemimpin Drive, 08-01, tel: 8245-1555. Appointments must be made for weekday visits from 7 to 10pm, while the store is open on weekends from 11.30am to 5.30pm
