The key to this family home’s seemingly effortless classic-modern New England style lies in its simple details applied consistently and effectively. Designer Arjan Twilhaar of Aiden T. also conducted a major overhaul of its spaces. He streamlined the layout and even created a whole new family space on the roof terrace of the penthouse apartment!
Tucked behind cabinet doors, the small study/workspace (at the far end) eats into the floor area of the bathroom behind and is unobtrusive. The family likes the modern-traditional look that integrates worn-out objects for character, such as the study seat.
Wood-trimmed plasterboard wainscoting accentuates the New England feel. The family’s budding art collection includes this Lego painting by a rising American artist.
Three-year-old Christian’s bedroom gets a jolt of colour with sea-blue walls. The childproof furnishings mostly have rounded corners.
In the common bathroom, customised teal-coloured solid surfacing and woodgrain tiles offer the look of classic East Coast decor, but with easier care and better durability.
The bedroom of 10-year-old Alexander, a Liverpool fan, was designed to complement the poster of the team’s stadium. The lavender-grey ceiling creates a calming ambience for sleep.
For more comfortable clearance between their bedside table and the wall, the designer shifted the wall between the two rooms so the master bedroom ate into the floor space of Christian’s room.
The master bathroom exudes a contemporary spa feel with its white and pale grey palette.
