Your dish-washing sponges and mops store more harmful bacteria than you think. Learn how to get rid of the dirt trapped in them.
Sponges and scrubbing pads
Chuck the sponge into the microwave for a minute or so – make sure it’s wet and doesn’t contain any metal parts. For hygiene purposes, do remember to replace your sponges every few weeks.
Soak the mop heads in a sanitising solution, such as bleach, for 15-20 minutes after each use. Use different mops in each areas of your house to prevent the spread of germs from one place to another. Colour-code the handles so you can remember the usage of each mop.
