Did you know the average size of a HDB flat bathroom is slightly under 3sqm? Don't start hyper-ventilating! We know it sounds miserably small but you can still make it work!

Here are some of our tips on how to maximise your bathroom's space:

1) GO TRANSPARENT

Try to keep the bathroom as open as possible andopt for glass doors. Not only does it bring more light into the space, it definitely gives the illusion of a larger bathroom.

2) BUILD UP

Keep your floor empty buy building wall mounted sinks and cabinets.

3) LARGE MIRRORS

The most basic of space-creating tools, the mirror. Large mirrors help reflect what little light there is in the space creating a brighter spaec.

4) USE SPACE-ENHANCING COLOURS

Avoid dark colours and bold colours, instead opt for soft, light neutrals. If you do what to bring some colour into the space, accent your bathroom with a line of colourful tiles or a thin border of colour. Also, avoid cluttering too many colours in your bathroom, keep everything roughly in the same shade.

5) CHANGE THE DOOR

Sounds simple right? Unfortunately quite a few homes in Singapore, especially older ones, come with doors fitted to open into the bathroom. Make the change to a door that opens out into the corridor or a pocket door that slides. You'll open up the space completely! Going transparent like these folks works too.

6) RECESSES IN WALLS RATHER THAN HANG UP BULKY SHELVES

Why not replace wall-mounted shelves and cabinets with wall recesses. A small recess in the shower gives you space to place your bath gel and shampoo.
