Under the theme “Where would we be without you”, the 2023 edition of 3DaysofDesign, which took place in the Danish capital from June 7th to 9th 2023, was a clear success.

One of its largest events ever, the festival celebrated its 10th anniversary this year with a growing number of established brands but also emerging talents, reaching a total of around 280 exhibitors.

Visitors had the opportunity to explore 13 different design districts throughout the city, each with its own character and showcasing creative exhibitions and products.

This year's 3daysofdesign Copenhagen design week reflected many initiatives uniting several brands and designers. By joining forces, these creative collaborations and minds explored new grounds and brought innovative pieces to life.

Vaarnii at Tableau

Brand: Vaarnii, Finnish furniture company in Helsinki, Finland
Location: Tableau, Design studio at Store Kongensgade 50, Copenhagen

Merging two universes, this show blended the strong sculptural quality of Tableau that blurs the lines between functional art and design with the brutal yet sophisticated objects made in Finnish pine by Vaarnii — a surprising mix with an avant-garde essence.

House of Nordic Design

Gathering up-and-coming Danish designers and artists such as Kibun Project, St. Leo and Sia Hurtigkarl, House of Nordic Design — founded by Natalia Sanchez — wants to push smaller brands forward through its online platform and create a true community of new talents.

Audo Copenhagen

Since June 1 2023, the two brands MENU and by Lassen are now under one name: Audo Copenhagen. This collaboration spans furniture, lighting and accessories, with iconic designs by Ib Kofod-Larsen, Vilhelm Lauritzen, Flemming and Mogens Lassen, and collaborations with contemporary talents including Norm Architects, Colin King and Danielle Siggerud.

Louis Poulsen & Home in Heven

Brand: Louis Poulsen, Danish lighting brand
Glass Makers: Home in Heven, based in Brooklyn, New York City

Inspired by Louis Poulsen’s Pale Rose collection, these new art pieces adorned with horns, swirls and tentacles are crafted by the renowned glass artists of Home in Heven — founded by Breanna Box and Peter Dupont — in collaboration with Elliot Walker of Blowfish Glass. The result is mesmerising.

Vsno by Anna Maria Øfstedal Eng

Bringing warmth to any interior, wood was on the top of everyone’s list in Copenhagen this year, from iconic brands to young designers, proving its timeless quality.

The Norwegian furniture and homeware designer, Anna Maria Øfstedal Eng, took cues from the way that moss spreads across the surface of a rock to bring these three pieces to life in American maple.

“When you carve it, it creates an organic, double-curved landscape that is so aesthetically pleasing,” she says about the material.

New Works

Furniture: Lotta Agaton Interiors

The balance and serenity found in Japan were the starting point of the exhibition presented by New Works in collaboration with Lotta Agaton Interiors. Among some of the pieces on display were a shelving system and the Bukowski Chair in walnut, and the Atlas dining table and stool in natural oak.

Karimoku

The Japanese lifestyle brand and leading manufacturer of wooden furniture showcased a selection of its collections — including pieces by Norm Architects, Keiji Ashizawa Design and Foster + Partners — in the Danish capital’s New Mags bookstore that was transformed into a residential-style space.

Mater Design Denmark

Among the design community, developing “green” practices and products created with natural materials and components has already become a necessity, and it’s for the best.

The sustainability-focused Danish brand chose to showcase the transformative power of recycling.

It unveiled the new light and minimalistic Lily table and Compound chair made from Matek, Mater’s patented circular material, and designed by Copenhagen-based OEO Studio, which also has a project office in Tokyo.

Natural Material Studio

“From a position where we develop and create new, natural materials, we are determined to understand how we can design in collaboration with nature and the natural occurrences that happen within these organic processes,” says Bonnie Hvillum, founder of Natural Material Studio, which used biopolymers, natural softeners, clay and chalk for all of this installation’s works.

Frama

Located at: Fredericiagade 57, 1310 Copenhagen, Denmark

The multi-disciplinary brand encompassing lifestyle objects and homewares, interior architecture, furniture and lighting, and scents and skincare celebrated the importance of food culture and local community, favoring a dialogue around nature and creativity through a collaboration with the eatery Apotek 57 and Copenhagen-based farmers market Grønt Marked.

Crackle Circular by Åsa Jungnelius

Artist: Åsa Jungnelius, Swedish
Glassmakers: Barnhusgatan 16 111 23 Stockholm, Sweden

The 2023 Red Dot Award winner in the category of Product Design Best of the Best, this series of three vases and one bowl made of upcycled waste glass is a tribute to cracks.

Rooted in traditional Swedish design and craft, this line features small bubbles and a unique color identity and surface.

Gesture Chair by Warm Nordic

Available in a vast array of colors, this molded chair designed by Hans Olsen (1919-1992) in the 1950s is part of Warm Nordic’s collections and exemplifies Danish modernism.

Playful and inviting, it welcomes anyone to sit comfortably whether it is at a dining table or a desk.

Candy Collection by Helle Mardahl Studio

Located at: Bredgade 38, 2, 1260 København, Denmark

Although Scandinavian design has the reputation of being on the more discreet side of the color spectrum, this year was marked by the presence of surprisingly bright hues.

These glossy glass objects are mouth-blown pieces of art that aim to awaken anyone’s appetite, according to Helle Mardahl, an artist and designer who graduated from London’s Central Saint Martins and draws inspirations from childhood memories and iconic films such as “Alice in Wonderland” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

AH Outdoor Series By Alfred Homann

More and more people feel the need to enjoy an exterior area at home. Finding the right pieces of furniture for those spaces has become an easy task thanks to plenty of well-designed options.

Made of teak — to resist changing climates and offer durability due to its high natural oil content — this stackable outdoor collection was designed by Danish architect Alfred Homann. It comprises seating, tables and benches.

Creating something that enhances the experience of nature is the idea behind the Banco bench made of teak FSC 100% (Forest Stewardship Council — which means the product is made exclusively of recycled materials) and designed by Hugo Passos, who works between Copenhagen, Denmark and Porto, Portugal.

Carmel Table by OEO Studio

Brand: GUBI

Gubi’s first ceramic tables feature vivid colors and high- shine glaze. Designed by OEO Studio — co-founded by Thomas Lykke and Anne-Marie Buemann — they were inspired by the designers’ travels on the Pacific Coast of the United States, and especially the charming town of Carmel-by- the-Sea in California.
