A travelling exhibition featuring the work of fine arts graduates from Lasalle College of the Arts
By Home & Decor Team -
Admire art while you have your coffee! 'Art Moves' brings art to the masses — instead of artworks being shown in a traditional gallery, they are shown in three The Connoisseur Concerto (TCC) art boutique cafes in town. 'Art Moves' is a year-long travelling exhibition featuring more than 50 artworks by 10 recent fine arts graduates from Lasalle College of the Arts, in partnership with TCC, a home-grown cafe chain. The works are priced between $100 and $3,000. A portion of the sales proceeds will go to help Lasalle students with financial needs.
Here is a preview of what you can look forward to and keep a lookout for.
UNTITLED #1 (2013) by Felicia Loi, Chinese ink on paper, 68x68cm
Multidisciplinary artist Loi creates a poetic visual using the interaction of water and ink - the work reflects the unlimited possibilities of life.
UNTITLED (CERAMIC VESSELS) (2015) by Kathlyn Loke, ceramics, various dimensions
Drawing inspiration from the cup, a most basic form of receptacle, Loke merges the mouths of two cups to make one vessel. This work reflects on the idea of friendship and its potential overlap with desire.
OUR WORLDUST ENJOY THE MOMENT (2015) by Naufal Abshar, acrylic and soft pastels on canvas, 91x61cm
The artist, inspired by his younger days, captures a personal story depicting his relationships with his brother and sister, and their childhood hobbies.
UNDER MY SKIN (2015) by Tinu Verghis, digital print, 59.4x84.1cm
The artist, who is also a fashion model, taps into the strength of the female body to form a language that reacts to a system dominated by men. Through the act of "peeling" her own skin, she removes cultural constructions about her image and reclaims her body as her own.
HAO RE AH! #1 (2013) by Tong Shi Hui, photograph, 29.7x42cm
Responding to an image of overcrowded swimming pools in China due to global warming, Tong reveals the joys and pain of summer from the perspective of a miniature human.
UNTITLED (GO AWAY~#3) (2015) by Lau Yiling, digital print, 59.4x84.1cm
Lau's colourful work is based on childhood memories she never had, as she is intrigued by the impossibility of perfectly capturing the past. She transforms her fantasies into reality, using commonly found materials to blur the lines between craft and art.
TIONG BAHRU (2015) by Asanul Nazryn, illustrations, 50x50cm (edition of 10)
Asanul's illustrations depict HDB flats because he values their importance as examples of Singapore's historical development. He hopes people will consider them as archive materials worth maintaining.
