The art fair that has everyone flocking to Singapore opens its seventh edition today. Art Stage Singapore, the anchor event of Singapore Art Week, will be showcasing works from 131 exhibitors from 54 countries globally. These works range from installations, paintings, photography, video art and new media.

Art Stage Singapore champions Southeast Asian art, and as its founder and president Lorenzo Rudolf mentioned in the press preview yesterday, is an art fair that “is not only in Asia, but for Asia”. “Art is growing here; there are new initiatives and museums in Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines. Art Stage Singapore is a forum for the exchange of ideas as well as a way to enable this region as a competitive art market that can compete with the West and China,” he says.

This year, Art Stage’s second Southeast Asia Forum – a thematic programme comprising an exhibition, series of lectures, and panel discussions – is titled Net Present Value: Art, Capital, Futures. This focus on the theme of capitalism will explore the relationship between money, ideals, and value of art in the current political, economic and social context.

The Forum’s exhibition will present works by 23 artists while the series of lectures will bring speakers from both the art and social sciences community. This includes artists like Ivan Lam, Kent Chan, Jenny Holzer, Noberto Roldan, and TIntin Wulia, and speakers like Aaron Seeto, Beatrix Ruf, and Gridthiya Gaweewong.

Visitors can also look forward to Collectors’ Stage 2017, a special exhibition of works from the private collections of Singapore-based collectors. Curated by Enin Supriyanto around the title Expose, and in partnership with The Artling, the exhibition will draw from the diverse collections of Hady Ang, Jim Amberson, Kenneth Tan, and a collector who wishes to remain anonymous.

Art Stage Singapore 2017 is happening from 12 to 15 January at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre. For more information, visit www.artstagesingapore.com. Tickets may be purchased from all Marina Bay Sands Ticketing Counters, Marina Bay Sands Sales Website, all SISTIC Counters island-wide, SISTIC Website and Art Stage Singapore Ticketing Box Office during the fair.
