When you're next in Hongkong, check out the new Alto restaurant designed by Design Research Studio (DRS), under the direction of British designer Tom Dixon. DRS drew on the four elements of earth, air, fire and water to create dramatic and striking interiors.

Seen in this picture is the restaurant's canopy of 230 gold mini Melt lights; Melt is a distorted lighting globe created from Tom Dixon's collaboration with Swedish design collective Front.

The furnishings and materials in Alto were carefully selected for their association with natural elements.

The VIP room features ethereal Tom Dixon Curve pendants and wall lights, chosen for their soft silver finish and perforated surface.

The Form tea set, seen on the 'oxidised' console of the VIP room, is a sophisticated way to serve British afternoon tea. The items are all made in solid brass.

A cluster of gold Fade pendants hang over the dining area, the fading metallised surfaces referencing heat and smoke rising from the kitchen.

The Scoop chair is all about comfort and has a scooped shape, designed to hold the sitter in an enclosed space

Even the bathrooms reflect the glamourous tone of the dining experience in Alto, using terrazzo stone which embody the earth and Alto's mountainous geographical location.
