Mox @ Katong Point: The co-making space where creatives can rent machines, a photography studio and more

With many co-working spaces geared towards white-collar whizzes, a facility that provides creatives and craftsmen a space to get their hands dirty is long-overdue. Mox is a joint venture between creative retail activator Invade and real-estate investment firm Buxani Group.
Mox is made up of hot-desking spaces like these, as well as speciality rooms like woodworking workshops.
Mox is the first co-making space in Singapore, and is equipped with amenities like a photography studio, workshops, retail stores and even a kindergarten – a plus point for working parents.
Located in the four-storey Katong Point, Mox is dressed in hip neon lights, mismatched chairs and –as a homage to its Katong location – vibrant Peranakan tile-inspired motifs.
Mox aims to ease the high capital costs faced by creatives by offering tools such as industrialgrade sewing machines, 3-D printers, software like Sketchup and Adobe Creative Suite, lighting equipment for photo shoots, and venue rentals.
Our favourite spot: The sewing rooms – they come with a versatile pegboard that displays every tool you’ll ever need, as well as equipment most home tailors don’t have access to, such as industrial-grade Janome machines and mannequins.
Tenants like furniture maker Triple Eyelid, which works out of the woodworking studio, also conduct classes for other tenants and external participants.
This game-changing facility makes Mox not only a resource centre, but a community that encourages budding creatives to pursue their ideas without limitations as well. Now that Mox has pioneered the concept of a design workspace, expect to see the term “co-making space” more often.
