Those who yearn for an antidote to a hectic life will appreciate Nanxun Blossom Hill, a boutique heritage hotel where urbanites can immerse themselves in nature and history. French designer Thomas Dariel created the perfect balance between tradition and modernity in the restored ancient villa where Nanxun Blossom Hill is housed.
The idyllic 30,000sqf space, dotted with South Chinese gardens, is located in Nanxun, Huzhou – a town aptly known as Hidden Book Town, named after the impressive book collection and introverted nature of the town’s richest resident, Liu Chenggan, who built a library in the 1920s.
Within, guests are introduced to Nanxun’s culture through subtle and stylish hints of the town’s popular industries and recreational activities, such as fishing, gardening and silk production.
The restaurant features geometric blue and red silk strips that hang across the ceiling, while the guest rooms are designed with ocean blue hues, latticework in the style of fish scales, as well as bamboo weavings.
Quirky and playful elements, such as mint green and ocean blue Lazy Susan coffee tables, modern renditions of sky lanterns, and feature walls reminiscent of traditional tea drawers, complete the look. Guests will also enjoy paintings that depict the town’s pastoral lifestyle.
