By Home & Decor Team -
Singapore’s first ever Urban Design Festival brings together some things old, and some things new. Organised by creative studio Lopelab, the festival comprises three events – the Urban Design Summit, Urban Ventures street party, and Urban Design Route – held in the Tanjong Pagar district that aim to get people to stay and play in the public spaces, which is also the festival’s theme.

1. Urban Design Summit
Held over two days from 15 to 16 March at The Working Capitol, a host of industry professionals from urban developers to researchers will explore the meaning of placemaking, the transformation of lifeless public places into meaningful and vibrant spaces.
Some of the topics up for discussion in the talks and workshops include integrating urban transportation with urban spaces, the value of place branding, and eating in public spaces.
Tickets to the two-day Urban Design Summit are available at https://peatix.com/sales/event/343308/tickets
2. Urban Design Route
For three months from 15 March to 15 June, you can find various works of urban design all around the Tanjong Pagar district. These temporary projects encourage passers-by to interact with them and, as a result, stay a while longer in these places.
One such project is this bamboo pole pavilion named Sombra Verde, or green shade in Spanish, that will bring soothing shade to visitors of Duxton Plain Park.
The lights and sounds of Sound Tunnel, an interactive installation within an existing underpass will bewitch you.
For those of you with easily tired legs, why not take a break on Bubbles, a semi-transparent structure that can be sat on, leaned on or even climbed on.
3. Urban Ventures
The festival also integrates the 9th edition of Urban Ventures into its programme, a much-loved street party in Keong Saik Road that has become something of an annual tradition. The two-day event held this weekend (17-18th March 2018) will feature live music by local bands, an artisan’s market, yoga on the street and more!
