A bedroom can be a place of balance between functionality, experience and limitless design possibilities. For this reason, one in a show flat is the perfect place for interior designers to let their imaginations run wild.

Lin Weizhang of Super Fat Designs shows us how to create a restful space, both aesthetically and practically.
WHAT MAKES A GOOD BEDROOM DESIGN?
A bedroom must be able to provide restful sleep. It is where one relaxes and feels safe. Lighting, textures and colours all play a role in this. We strive to create a space for rest by balancing and interweaving these elements to create a space for rest. It is important to sleep in a room that is conducive to your health, physically and mentally.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DESIGNING A BEDROOM FOR A SHOW FLAT AND A BEDROOM WE USE?
Show flats showcase ideal layouts, design possibilities and potential. They originate from the designer’s perspective without input from the end-user.
Speak to your interior designer about your habits, preferences, likes, and dislikes when designing your bedroom. By synthesising these with the site condition, you can create a bespoke bedroom that meets the aesthetics as well as the purpose.
WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT TO CREATE A RESTFUL AND INVITING ENVIRONMENT AROUND THE BED?
A space’s physical experience shapes its environment. You should pay attention to the textures of fabrics, wall coverings and any surface by touching them before making any decisions. Together with the right lighting, a balanced colour palette creates a soothing, comfortable and refined room.
HOW DO YOU PLAN THE LIGHTING IN A BEDROOM?
Lighting is all about placement and choosing the right fittings to reduce glare, and direct illumination on areas that need task lighting.
HOW CAN WE HELP HOMEOWNERS CREATE A STYLISH YET FUNCTIONAL BEDROOM?
The key to getting the bedroom of your dreams is to experiment. Keep trying until you find what is right for you. One size does not fit all. No two people react to the same environment in the same way. Alternatively, consider hiring a professional who will synthesise a solution that meets your needs.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD HOMEOWNERS UPDATE THEIR BEDROOM DESIGNS?
This is a tough question. I believe that if you do it right the first time, the bedroom will last a long time. Refresh it only if it isn’t working for you any more. You should rotate your mattresses and sun your pillows regularly to keep them fresh. These items have use-by dates, so change them as needed.
WHAT ARE THE ESSENTIAL ITEMS FOR A MODERN BEDROOM?
Good pillows and mattresses, as well as a super comfortable duvet. We recommend using down instead of synthetic fillings.
WHAT DON’T YOU NEED IN A MODERN BEDROOM?
A TV, in our opinion. It interferes with sleep, looks awful, reduces private conversation time between two people and quiet time for oneself, all of which are vital for a healthy mental state.
