House Tour: A stylishly minimalist 45sqm bachelorette pad belonging to a retiree
Light furniture, moss art, and a recycled board feature wall lend this home a youthful and trendy look.
When this retiree approached Zach Lim of Lush Interior to design and renovate her two-bedder HDB flat in Bukit Batok, she knew exactly what she wanted: a fun and practical look, with the upscale feel of a boutique hotel. As the flat was 45sqm, she also wanted it to look more spacious.
To address the design brief, Zach reconfigured the space, opening it up for more light and airflow. He used light materials throughout such as a recycled board feature wall, lending the home a look that's both trendy and classic.
AT A GLANCE
Home: Two-room HDB flat in Bukit Batok
Size: 45 sqm
Who lives here: A retiree

Zach took care to choose materials and furniture with a light profile, particularly for tight corners, so as not to visually overwhelm the space.
For visual continuity, the same tiles in the entryway lead into the kitchen, which is kept simple and minimalist. A breakfast nook provides sufficient space for the homeowner to have her meals.
In the living room, a swivel-mount TV is set into the feature wall. The design choice of recycled board for the wall lends a trendy, youthful look.
What appears to be a series of abstract paintings on the walls is actually a moss art installation.
Things are kept equally minimalist in the bedroom, with bright pops of yellow accentuating the otherwise cool palette.
In the bathroom, Zach used terrazzo tiles and plenty of greenery to lend texture to the space.
