For Mohammad Zain and Sharon Park, their 4-room HDB executive Maisonette in Pasir Ris was never just going to be another renovation project. As the general manager of Wow Floors, Zain’s intimate relationship with wood would become the guiding spirit of their home transformation, turning each surface into a canvas for his passion and expertise.
$300,000 Renovation cost
The partnership between Zain and Lawrence Puah, design director of Akihaus, evolved from a long-standing client relationship into a collaborative artistic venture. Their shared understanding and respect for materials, particularly wood, led to a design that celebrates texture, warmth, and authenticity.
Throughout the lower floor, distressed handcrafted walnut flooring tells a story of artisanal dedication, each plank carefully selected and finished to create a foundation of organic beauty.
Wood TV console
In the living room, an ash-wood veneer TV console becomes more than furniture – it’s a statement piece that anchors the space in natural elegance.
The brick wall, rising dramatically to the second level, creates a visual narrative that unites both floors of this Pasir Ris maisonette. This architectural element becomes a spine around which the home’s design story unfolds, its texture and continuity bringing a sense of cohesion to the vertical space.
Wood Dining Table Set
The dining area emerges as a playful composition of contrasts. A custom wooden bench converses with chairs from Om and Marquis, creating an eclectic yet harmonious gathering space.
Blue accents from Stylodeco vases and tableware add punctuation marks of color to the wooden symphony, proving that even in a wood-dominated space, thoughtful contrast can create magical moments.
All Wood Room Design
Perhaps the most enchanting space in this maisonette interior design is the family room adjacent to the dining area. Here, golden bamboo strips envelope walls, floor, and ceiling, creating an immersive experience that transforms with the day’s light. When sunlight filters through, the space becomes a glowing sanctuary, almost cathedral-like in its warm radiance.
Herringbone wooden floor
The master bedroom continues the home’s material narrative while adding its own chapter. Herringbone-patterned wood flooring introduces a classical element that speaks of timeless craftsmanship. Natural light from the balcony area plays across these geometric patterns, creating ever-changing shadows that bring the floor to life throughout the day.
Marble-look toilet wall tiles
In a thoughtful departure from the home’s wooden theme, the master bathroom upstairs embraces luxury through a different material language. Marble-like tiles from Rice Fields create a spa-like atmosphere, proving that true design mastery lies not in rigid adherence to a theme, but in knowing when to create contrast.
Pasir Ris Maisonette renovation
This Pasir Ris maisonette stands as a masterclass in personal expression through design. Every surface, every material choice, every spatial decision reflects not just professional expertise, but deeply personal connections to craft and material. It’s a home that celebrates the beauty of wood in all its forms, while understanding that true luxury lies in knowing when to let other materials take center stage.
The result is more than a renovation – it’s a deeply personal statement about the relationship between people and materials, between expertise and living space, between professional knowledge and personal comfort. In every corner, this home whispers stories of craftsmanship, of material love, of the delicate balance between design ambition and daily life.
