Enjoy the convenience of fresh flowers delivered weekly to your doorstep with Ji Mei's floral subscription service.

Flowers are a great way to add colour and nature into your home, but it can be a chore replacing them when they wilt. If you have been decorating your home with fresh seasonal blooms over the Christmas and CNY period, and are hoping to keep your vases full of beautiful blooms for the rest of the year, consider taking up a floral subscription service. In addition, gifting your significant other with a continuous supply of fresh flowers for the whole year for the coming Valentine's Day definitely beats a single bouquet for the day.

I love coming home to a living room full of flowers, but buying them from the neighbourhood florist can be pricey and I'm lazy to schedule regular visits to the wholesale flower markets over the weekends, so when I found out Ji Mei (one of the most established suppliers of fresh cut flowers in Singapore) launched their flower subscription service, I decided to give it a go!

There are many floral websites offering subscription services, but I decided to go for Ji Mei's service because I have been to their wholesale market located at 5 Joan Road before, and was impressed with the quality of their flowers available in the cold room.

Getting your flowers at wholesale rates from Ji Mei can be 50 to 80 per cent cheaper than from your neighbourhood florist, the downside is of course you have to buy them in bunches instead of just one or two stalks. That's not an issue for me because I always have several vases on standby at home for when I manage to make a lunchtime dash to Ji Mei to get fresh flowers. Opting for their flower subscription service makes total sense to me because not only am I still getting the same low rates for my flowers, Ji Mei can also deliver the flowers to my home. No more having to lug huge bunches of flowers to and fro anymore! Yay.

As I've mentioned before, I have been searching around for a flower subscription service for some time but I found Ji Mei's subscription prices the cheapest among the other floral websites I've seen so far. There are two options for homeowners to choose, the $35 or $55 per week package (inclusive of delivery). You'll need to sign up for a month at least (which means 4 weekly deliveries) and you can also opt to have your subscription automatically renewed at the end of the month.

I opted for the premium $55/week package because I have several vases at home, and according to Ji Mei the package will provide enough flowers and foliage for me to fill three vases to last the whole week.

Another plus-point: Ji Mei provides a free vase and pruning shears with the first delivery! So no worries if you are new to having fresh-cut flowers in your home, or if you are gifting the subscription to someone else.

On deliveries: This is where I feel Ji Mei can improve on, because you can only select for deliveries to be made on a weekday (either the morning or afternoon). It's not an issue for me currently because I am still working from home, but it might pose an issue when I have to head into office. But I selected afternoon or evening deliveries for my subscription and they were usually delivered around 5-6pm, so I guess Ji Mei is also careful enough to choose a time that ensures someone is home to accept the delivery even on a weekday. Furthermore, after doing more research on my own, I realised that most of the other floral sites offering a subscription service also provide only deliveries on a weekday, so Ji Mei isn't an exception in this case.

Week 1

These were the arrangements I managed to make out of my week 1 delivery. I was pretty impressed with the quality and quantity of materials because these would have cost at least $100 if I had to buy them from the nearby florist. That translates to huge savings for my $55/week subscription. The purple hydrangeas alone would have cost $25 per stalk and I got two in the delivery, which means I already recouped the price of my subscription for that week. As for the roses, a single stalk would have cost $2 from the shops, and I had a dozen in the delivery.

Week 2

Red roses and fresh tulips were the highlight of my week 2 delivery. I managed to make some of the flowers from my first week last longer and so I added them to my week 2's arrangements.

Tip: I decided to buy a tub of powdered flower food to add to the water to help my blooms last for more than a week. The powder basically consists of sugar and some fungicide to prevent bacteria growth. When pruning flowers, also ensure that all the leaves below the water level are removed to prevent mold growth.

Week 3

I really like the unique colour of the roses I received for week 3, as they contrasted nicely with the dark green foliage, which came with the delivery.

Week 4

I received some nice green wicky fillers in my delivery and used it to add to some of my existing flowers.

In addition, my week 4 delivery also came with some lilies, which made for great-looking tall arrangements.

Overall, I like that each delivery came with a good mix of main flowers, fillers and foliage. I plan to continue with the subscription moving forward as it seems to be the most cost-effective solution to having a constant supply of fresh-cut flowers delivered to my doorstep.
