Open-concept home with a laid back feel and chill-out vibes | SG.ID Seen

This beautiful apartment in East Coast exudes modernity and a laid-back charm with its minimalist looks and sensual design.

by Young Lim  /   October 25, 2022

SG.ID Seen is a regular column on Home & Decor, where we pick out some of the most interesting home interior projects completed by designers in Singapore and point out what we like about it.

A few select HDB blocks along the East Coast have the rare privilege of enjoying an unobstructed view of the serene shoreline. So it makes total sense that IDs Eddie & Serene from INTR Studio would propose an open concept designed to accentuate the breathtaking views outside the window. In fact, one of the first things the duo did was to create an open window concept with folding panes so that the surrounding wall bordering the opening becomes a bold frame for the vista outside.

Viewed from the entrance of the home, the glistening ocean becomes a live artwork that inspires the rest of the home.

The colour scheme for the home was kept to shades of creamy whites, allowing the few pieces of vital furniture in the living room to take centerstage. If you notice, the colours of the upholstery have also been kept to the same colour scheme as the walls, while the furniture comprises mostly of warm woods. This is a great tip for those who have a lot of existing wooden furniture and would like to bring those along to a new home set-up.

We also like that the IDs not only created a statement wall for the TV, they also created a ample storage area below it. This way, the console becomes part of the wall, and helps with the seamless look of the spatial design.

The living and dining areas are combined into one big open space. The wall separating the two rooms previously have been hacked away, which makes the two long rows of windows seem to join together to create a beautiful wall painting of the external environment.

image

Notice how the artwork on the wall in the dining area also picks up the hues used in the colour scheme.

image

To highlight the bold design of the architecture, the walls and ceiling sport rounded curves. The sensual look is reflected in the design of the furniture as well. It’s a great technique if you want the walls of your home to do most of the storytelling in an interior design.

image

The design of the furniture feature clean, simple and straight lines, adding to the uncluttered and effortless look of the home.

image

In the kitchen, the width of the backsplash is similar to the width of the windows in the living area, visually this creates the illusion of a spacious home that extends from one end of the room to the other. The earthy colours and the natural textures of the wood and marble combine to make this home feel modern but still warm and inviting.

image

Looking out from the kitchen, the view is nicely framed by the rounded doorway.

image

The curves continue into the bathroom, where the show area is cordoned off with a curved tiled wall.

image

A great way to save space in a small bathroom is to create a sink counter in the corner of the room instead of putting up a whole counter from wall to wall. The choice of a semi-circle mirror is a terrific idea and cleverly incorporated into the whole look.

image

The master bathroom takes on a more luxurious and indulgent look, with a stone counter and a large organically-shaped mirror.

image

The look of the master bedroom remains in keeping with the rest of the home, and feels soothing and relaxed.

image

The wardrobe has been built into the wall opposite the bed. By using up the entire space along the wall, the wardrobe becomes a concealed feature, with slim long handles to tell you where they are located.

H&D Says: We love it! The entire look seems simple, but when you look into the details you can tell how much effort has been put into the project to ensure that the sense of continuity and seamlessness is maintained throughout. It looks simple, but it really isn’t. Kudos to INTR Studio.
