Located on the dream island of Phu Quoc, home to a UNESCO-designated Biosphere Reserve known for its crystal-clear water from the Gulf of Thailand, the Regent Phu Quoc feels like paradise.

“Inspired by a country with a strong local culture and a wonderful mix of traditional architectural heritage, we designed a resort that would evoke Vietnamese influence and enhance the natural tropical beauty of its surroundings,” says the team from Blink Design Group, which was in charge of the design.

Creating a luxury beach resort with suites and villas (ranging from one to seven bedrooms), private infinity and plunge pools, six food and beverage concepts, a grand ballroom and event spaces, a Regent Club and a spa was the brief’s starting point. Blink made the most of the breathtaking panorama, taking inspiration from the building methods, materials and traditions of the Vietnamese vernacular while introducing contemporary design elements.

“One of the structural systems commonly found is the wooden truss system, know locally as the bovi,” says Clint Nagata, founder and creative director at Blink. “We have abstracted that feature and developed it into subtle patterns that feature on screens, carpets and accessories.”
Every villa has its own infinity pool and plunge pool, providing privacy and favouring an experience where interior spaces and outdoor areas seem to be at one, as in the rest of the hotel.

“A traditional house is often composed of small compartments and courtyards,” says Clint. “These individual spaces create transition and different experiences within the same house. Our spatial zoning presents a contemporary interpretation of gian nha, blurring the boundaries of indoor and outdoor.”
Here, one discovers a delightful experience at every turn in a tranquil environment where visual harmony reigns. “We wanted to create pockets of space and a sense of epiphany within the resort to remind guests of the peaceful feelings that nature and her beauty brings, and with that, enhance the property’s calming and relaxing atmosphere,” says Clint.

Honouring not only the landscape and the Vietnamese heritage, this resort slowly reveals itself through a journey where wellness means taking the time to contemplate.
