- Always wash your hands before preparing food (rub hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds).
- Wash your hands after using the toilet, handling raw food, throwing rubbish, cleaning, coughing and sneezing.
- Cover any open wounds or cuts you have on your hands with Band-Aids.
- Do not prepare food on the floor, near the toilet, or near anything which might contaminate the food (such as the kitchen bin).
- Use separate chopping boards, knives and utensils to handle cooked and uncooked food, as well as different types of food, such as seafood, meat, and fruit and vegetables.
- Clean chopping boards between each use.
- Clear your kitchen bin when it is three-quarters full.
- Clean up any spills immediately.
- Cover any exposed cooked food.
- Wash and disinfect your dishcloths, hand towels, and sponges regularly.
