While we adore the classics, fresh interpretations of vintage favourites are also exciting. Think of the Nub chair as the traditional Windsor chair’s expressive cousin.

Why We Love It
The Nub Chair’s oversized back is crafted from spindles with an alternating rhythm than enhances the chair’s jaunty proportions atop its solid wooden legs. Manufacture in eco-friendly beechwood by Andreu World, the chair strays from the straight-grained wood used by the Windsor, while maintaining its archetypal Shaker-style look.
Who Designed It
Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola started out as an architectural student, and was mentored by design legend Achille Castiglioni. She then progressed to homeware and furniture design, which includes the well-known Crinoline collection for B&B Italia and rugs for Gan. Now, the prolific Urquiola designs for some of the best brands in the business. Rarely favouring a certain style, she aims to invoke emotions through her works, which have made her a leading voice in modern design.
What It Inspired
The Nub chair’s striking backrest was the starting point for Andreu World’s Nub Collection. Variations of the chair include steel swivel or sled legs, upholstered in neutrals, black or bright red. Lounge chairs and benches are also available in the series, proving the versatility of the chair’s aesthetics.
The Nub chair is available at XTRA.
