A painstaking process of 160 days, creating a rug like this required boiling of the yarn before dying it in several colours, afterwhich the craftsmen had to sandwich a spread of latex between the layers of yarn to hold the rug together. The last step, had a craftsman slowly level the yarn by hand to ensure each strand is of the right height.
Made of rubber tires from recycled bicycles, the Bicicileta rug was made by craftsmen from India who had to hand-knot each rubber strand, slowly weaving it into a rug.
