The interior design of this chic family home might have been inspired by the glamorous New York penthouses seen on TV series Gossip Girl, as homeowner Tiana Tay shares, but it stands out in its own distinctive way.

If you love the idea of mixing patterns but aren't quite sure how to pull it off, this stunning home is about to become your new inspiration. The apartment, designed by interior designer Wendy Smith of Design Intervention, has a canvas of neutral tones such as whites and creams, punctuated with bright, refreshing colours in the form of patterned material finishes on the soft furnishings, as well as art pieces.

The green hue selected for the cushions, chairs, walls and rug helped bring in the foliage and tropical feel of the outdoor landscaping.

Mixing patterns and prints at home

The living room creates an airy, refreshing escape with its crisp white walls that make the perfect backdrop for the vibrant mix of patterns and prints. Printed accent pillows in jewel tones of purple and green add punches of rich color and texture.

A lively area rug with a bold pattern print helps ground the space while tying together the green and purple hues. Overall, the pattern accents in the living room strikes the ideal balance of lively energy and relaxed comfort - a true oasis to unwind after a long day.

Flowing seamlessly from the living area is the dining room, which employs eye-catching ikat print but in two coordinating neutral tones. This brilliant use of patterns in furniture allows the space to remain grounded while adding depth through layered textures and motifs. The result is an elegant and inviting setting primed for memorable dinner parties.

Ornate bathroom design

The stunning master bath concludes the home tour on a grand note with its luxe ambience. Vertical striped walls in brown and black create a soothing, cocoon-like atmosphere. Underfoot, a mosaic tile floor with swirling patterns in complementary desert tones provides a gorgeous foundation.

An indulgent freestanding tub takes center stage with silver accents. Mirrors with ornate gold frames and a sparkling chandelier above the tub add just the right amount of shimmer and interest.

From the lively, botanical-inspired living room to the serene and earthy master bathroom, this incredible home is an absolute masterclass in mixing patterns. By skillfully layering a variety of printed textiles, wallcoverings, and decor accents, Wendy has created a cohesive and fashionable aesthetic that feels both polished and incredibly livable.
