With backgrounds in interior design, Ann and Max Ang worked hand-in-hand to achieve the industrial-rustic look of their 969sqf, four-bedroom flat in Punggol, which cost $80,000. Max worked on the overall design, while Ann handled the budgeting and accessories.

In the living area, the TV console was customised to match the color of the feature wall.

When interior designer Lilian Sim first set eyes on her 990 sqf four-room flat in Choa Chu Kang, she was disappointed by how small it looked. Undeterred, she thought hard about how to create a "large, minimalist home with lots of clean lines". The result is an open-concept kitchen, and a home with lots of built-in storage. Renovations, including furnishings, cost about $60,000.

She first removed the wall which separated the kitchen and the dining room for a larger space. The fixed, L-shaped dining table plays many roles too - it is a kitchen worktop, as well as a desk. The wood laminate that clads the surface of the table was extended to the ceiling to create a "canopy".

The furniture's placement and the vinyl floor tiles, from Tarkett, follow the same linearity to visually elongate the living room. The red figurines are from Ode to Art.

Lilian looked to popular Chinese e-commerce site Taobao to find affordable home decor accessories, such as these gold light fixtures.
