This week we look at Hawthorne Cottage, the Tudor-inspired family home of the Chias in Serangoon Gardens.

After a five-year stay in England, Jeanny and Robert Chia wanted to revive their nostalgic memories by recreating a bit of Tudor England in the semi-detached bungalow they bought in Serangoon Garden.

Robert knew exactly how he wanted his house to be modelled – it had to resemble the Georgian and Tudor homes the couple had admired in the English Lake District and parts of the interior had to be reminiscent of an English pub.

A treasured stained glass panel from England was installed in the servery between the dining room and kitchen. Reproduction Georgian furniture of the period (1714 to 1811) was shipped in from England for this room.

Corinthian columns are used to divide this entertainment area from the rest of the living room.

The deeply cushioned sofa forms a comfortable seating arrangement in the living room.

The master bedroom has a delightful bay window as its focal point. It looks out on the low picket fence – the only difference is that the fence of their English home took in a view of undulating hills and cattle grazing contentedly, while the Chias faces a street.
