Home & Decor Singapore pays tribute to three decades of design with a look back on its most interesting features over the years.
This week we look at the home of the Bateys, a colonial bungalow filled with whimsical touches.
Ian Batey’s home is an old colonial bungalow with a lovely garden. Indoors, the atmosphere is casual with the emphasis on comfort. Colours veer to soothing pastels because wife Carolyn feels the home should evoke a cool and resful ambience.
The Mediteranean-style kitchen is so inviting for a tete-a-tete. Carolyn’s cookery books fill one wall. She painted the palm in a pot because she just couldn’t get a real palm to grow in that space.
Modern art hangs above an English country sofa and an antique chest. A pair of papier-mache geese peep out of the corner.
A corner of the living room where a Friesian calf makes a playful statement amid antiques and throw cushions.
In the bedroom – a collection of caps and hats on one wall, while Carolyn’s children’s paintings hang on the adjoining wall.
