Three-room HDB flats are great canvases for creativity. It's a space you can gut without feeling too guilty, and redo to your own satisfaction. This single lady engaged the help of a contractor to turn her unique vision of a home into reality. This is what she did.
1. She eschewed store-bought shelves for modular industrial shelving more commonly found in warehouses or storerooms. She also used exposed electrical tracks and bare bulbs for lights.
2. She pushed the dining area into the kitchen, for a clean living zone. There are no built-in features; only loose furniture was used to stamp her personality on the spaces.
3. She used a highly unusual colour for the walls - green! Instead of tiles, she got the contractor to score grid lines on laminate for a graphic look. The rolling peg board was cusom-made, as is the kitchen table and benches.
4. She went all retro for the kitchen surfaces, with simple white tiles and black grouting for the structure, and open shelves sans doors.
5. She used a wall-hung convex mirror as an unexpected decor element in the living room.
