For interior designer Zach, his wife Steffanie, their two daughters (Lindsey and Faith), along with Zach’s parents, this home embodies their courageous journey through unimaginable loss towards a hopeful, united future. Nine years ago, tragedy struck when they lost their son in a heartbreaking accident. Struggling to move forward from their previous home, they knew they needed a fresh start, leading them eventually to this apartment.
Their search wasn’t just for a physical space, it was for peace.
After searching through various property listings online, the couple chanced upon a particular unit. Zach recounts warmly, “From the moment we first met the seller, we felt an instant and genuine connection that assured us this was meant to be.” With sincerity and ease, they secured their new home, confident it was the right choice for their family’s healing journey.
Initially worried about accommodating their entire family comfortably, Zach and Steffanie soon discovered that limitations could inspire creativity. Zach’s expert eye for interior design led him to maximise space innovatively, transforming their home into a sanctuary of warmth and elegance. “Every corner was crafted with intention and love,” Steffanie proudly shares.
A Home Filled With Heart
Zach envisioned a home filled with warmth, grace, and thoughtful practicality. Earthy tones, warm wood textures, and touches of monochrome bring elegance and harmony to every room. By seamlessly extending the kitchen into the living area and thoughtfully reshaping bedrooms, Zach crafted a living space that perfectly suits their family’s lifestyle.
At the heart of their home is an inviting dining and entertainment area designed to encourage togetherness. The extendable table is a symbol of open-hearted hospitality, accommodating family and friends alike. Zach’s coffee corner is more than just practical, it’s a beloved ritual that celebrates friendship, family bonds, and precious moments shared over good coffee.
The living room is alive with activity, often occupied by their youngest daughter’s vibrant presence or by Zach and Steffanie themselves, as they relax to their favourite jazz tunes. It’s a space that nurtures both individual pursuits and communal joy.
The Soulful Kitchen
Even with its compact size, the kitchen is the beating heart of family life. Zach laughingly admits, “It’s the smallest kitchen I’ve ever designed, but somehow it holds everything we cherish.” It’s a place where culinary talents shine, where laughter echoes, and where family recipes and new memories are joyfully created.
Bedrooms Designed with Love
Each bedroom carries a story of thoughtful care and deep familial connection. Zach’s parents find comfort and tranquility in their restful space, complete with thoughtful touches. His daughters share a room filled with laughter, secrets, and a lifetime of sisterly bonds. Their room is a cherished refuge that nurtures their relationship and dreams.
The master bedroom uniquely reflects Zach’s personal passions. By ingeniously repositioning the bathroom entrance, he created a private music corner where his piano stands ready to inspire. This space perfectly blends practicality with passion, illuminated by sunlight by day and offering comforting privacy at night, perfect for reflective moments.
Embracing Community and Comfort
Initially concerned about moving away from central Singapore, the family quickly discovered the hidden joys of their new neighbourhood. Parks, amenities, and even casual spots like McDonald’s became new sources of shared experiences and special family rituals.
Reflecting on their profound journey, Steffanie expresses heartfelt gratitude: “Zach has created more than just a house. He crafted a sanctuary filled with comfort, warmth, and belonging for our family.”
Today, Zach and Steffanie’s home isn’t merely a beautiful space, it’s an inspiring testament to how intentional design, deep family bonds, and courage can transform any house into a deeply cherished home.
