Home Tour: A Classical Victorian-style 4-room HDB flat
This classic HDB home from 2014
When it comes to decorating an HDB flat in a classical Victorian style, there's a fine line between elegant and overwhelming. The interior designers at Metaphor Studio have walked that line masterfully in this sophisticated 4-room flat renovation. With subtle Victorian-inspired touches, an airy palette, and strategic storage solutions, they've created a classical Victorian interior that is both stunning and livable.
Victorian style HDB flat
The living room establishes the elegant Victorian tone with paneled molding along the walls and a show-stopping crystal chandelier as the centerpiece. However, rather than the heavy, dark aesthetic often associated with Victorian style HDBs, the designers have brightened things up. A clean white color scheme is punctuated by pastel pink velvet dining chairs that add just the right pop of color. Vintage-inspired gold accents like the curtains and mirrored wall panels lend a sense of timeless luxury.
The open kitchen has plenty of storage space for the home owners and carries the same white theme of the home.
Classical Victorian interior
The bright, open-concept kitchen continues the airy Victorian vibe. Crisp white cabinets offer ample storage space for the homeowners' needs while black trim add a touch of Victorian elegance. The pristine white color scheme extends to the quartz countertops and kitchen island seamlessly blending the space with the living area.
Rather than bright gold, the designers opted for bronze-tinted mirrors that were easier on the eyes and that matched the beige carpet of the platformed area.
Victorian style bedroom
The primary bedroom suite is the true showpiece of this classical Victorian interior design. A large upholstered bed frame sits atop a raised platform that conceals hidden storage - a clever space-saving solution. Bronze-tinted mirror backsplashes add a touch of Victorian elegance. The designers intentionally chose these bronzed accents over bright gold as they are more subtle and easy on the eyes.
The platform is not only a frame for the bed, it hides storage for the home owners.
To save space, the homeowner's dressing table was hidden within the wardrobe and the back of the pull-out stool designed to look the same as the drawers, giving the space an uninterrupted look.
Matching his-and-hers wardrobe units flank the bed, one containing an ingenious pull-out dressing vanity to maximize space. Creamy white walls with intricate molding details nod to traditional Victorian style HDB designs.
The storage below the platform holds extra bedding for guests as this study doubles as a bedroom.
Japanese influenced design
In a refreshing twist, the study/guest room combines Victorian and Japanese design influences for a serene, multi-purpose space. A tatami-inspired platform not only elevates the daybed but also contains storage for hide-away bedding when guests arrive. Cherry blossom patterned wallpaper lends a softer, more feminine take on the traditional Victorian aesthetic. Subtle moldings along the ceiling complete the serene space.
