Trying to combine Scandinavian-style interiors with fengshui principles may not sound like it could work harmoniously, but this modern and cozy HDB flat in Tiong Bahru is proof that it does. The design seamlessly marries the clean lines and airy feel of Scandinavian decor with the ancient Chinese practice of fengshui.

HDB Feng Shui design

Working with interior designer Ken Lee of Space Matters and a fengshui master, the homeowner wanted her 3-room HDB flatto be a comfortable and airy space for relaxation. She also desired to encourage harmony and balance through the strategic use of colors and furnishings that facilitate positive chi or energy flow according to fengshui principles.

In the living room, the homeowner likes to jazz up her minimalist Boconcept fabric sofa with colorful, printed cushions that inject personality. A rattan chair is a treasured memento from her childhood home.

Auspicious red for good fengshui

Per the fengshui master's recommendations, the kitchen features pops of the auspicious red hue via a vibrant Smeg fridge, complemented by an unusual magenta quartz kitchen countertop by Silestone. Red tones are thought to attract luck and prosperity in fengshui.
