This classic, modern-looking Gentleman’s Club-inspired 4-room HDB home underwent a couple of changes so it could be spacious and functionable.

The interior designers at Whiz Concepts decided to do away with the original layout and reduced the kitchen's footprint to create a larger dining area with space large enough for ten people. The extra space was used to increase the size of the dining area, creating a space large enough for ten people.

Gentleman’s Club Interior Design

The 4-room HDB home's look is influenced by the classic style of a gentlemen's club.

The Gentleman’s Club or Gentleman’s Lounge-style interior design began gaining popularity in Singapore in the mid-2010s. This style is inspired by traditional English gentlemen’s clubs, which were spaces for men to socialise, relax, and engage in intellectual discussions. The design typically features rich materials like dark wood, leather furniture, vintage-inspired décor, and deep, masculine tones such as dark green, navy, and burgundy.

In Singapore, this aesthetic became particularly popular in both commercial spaces, such as high-end bars and restaurants, and residential homes, where individuals sought to create cosy yet sophisticated environments. The trend reflects a growing appreciation for classic European styles, blending them with modern touches for a more contemporary feel.

Library

The interior walls were knocked down, allowing an enclosed bedroom to be created, so the rest of the space could go to building the library - the central feature. Here, wall-to-wall open shelving units made from medium-density fibreboard (MDF) provide for all the storage needs, from books to vintage radios and cameras.

An L-shaped corner of the library is bordered with a bench seating, with handy storage nooks built behind them. This area easily seats more than 10 guests without being cramped.
