Very much in love with the whimsical cafes they’d visited in the Hongdae area in Seoul, the homeowners didn’t need to think twice when it came to decor inspirations for her home.

Their 1,001 sq ft (92 sqm) four-room HDB built-to-order flat in Punggol was created with the help of interior designer Wein Goh of Free Space Intent, who blended the couple’s fondness for cafe-inspired interiors with modern vintage and Scandinavian elements to create a distinct look for their nest.

Open bookshelves
Open shelves lined with Haruki Murakami novels and Frankie magazines invite visitors to pick up a copy and settle down either at the dining set or on the upholstered sofa in the living room.

White brick wall
These shelves hold an interesting collection of knick-knacks.

A white brick accent wall infuses the home with a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The white hue maintains a sense of brightness and cleanliness while still preserving the rustic and tactile charm of exposed brick.

Tokyo bike
In line with her obsession with cafe culture, the wife also bought a Tokyo bike with the intention of working it into the home’s interiors.

The sleek, minimalist design of a Tokyo bike features clean lines and a modern, urban aesthetic that complements the decor. Its elegant appearance becomes a decorative element in its own right, enhancing the visual appeal of the space.

Entertainment room ideas
More light now fills the entertainment room thanks to the glass panel (extreme right) which replaced a solid wall.

The room is filled with Gundam merchandise, from framed pictures on the walls to big and small figurines.

5/7

Study desk with drawers
The wife dolled up her half of the study desk with postcards and quotes that inspire her.

The postcards and inspirational quotes not only reflect her unique tastes and interests but also infuse the environment with a sense of her identity and aspirations.

Master bedroom design
Decor in the master bedroom was kept as basic as possible, as the homeowners want to keep it purely for rest.

This minimalist approach extends to the choice of furniture, with only essential pieces like a comfortable bed, nightstands, and perhaps a cozy reading chair gracing the room.

By keeping the decor basic and unobtrusive, the homeowners have successfully created a sanctuary dedicated to rest, ensuring that the bedroom remains a peaceful haven for recharging both the body and the mind.

Walk-in wardrobe
A walk-in wardrobe was designed as a room divider in order to separate the sleep and dressing area.

To cap their renovation budget at $40,000, the couple retained the flat's flooring and the washrooms.
