Financial advisor Jessica Yeo is a self-confessed “neat freak” who likes her Rivervale Plains HDB executive apartment to be clutter-free and easy to maintain. The frequent traveller enjoys spending me time relaxing in the privacy of her own home, as well as hosting family and friends when she is in town. As such, requirements in her brief included sufficient storage spaces, low-maintenance materials and finishes, and two open areas - one for entertaining and one for her personal use.

Wee Studio

Befitting the homeowner’s bachelorette status, Yeo See Wee, principal designer of Wee Studio came up with a concept that was inspired by the female form.

“The design language incorporates bold shapes and dynamic elements that are a nod to the female form. The aim is to express femininity and strength through the use of strong lines and contrasting profiles,” See Wee explains. Having also designed Jessica’s former home 12 years ago, she had full confidence in See Wee and team and gave them free rein to “work their magic”.

HDB Executive apartment floor plan

The HDB executive apartment’s odd-shaped floor plan was far from straightforward and risked having the spaces end up being segmented and awkward.

Interior designer See Wee’s approach was to open up the study area, an additional room that is typical of executive flats, and the adjacent bedroom to create an elongated expanse of space that stretches the length of the flat- from the main entrance all the way to the wall at the end. Strung along this continuous volume are the living, dining and study areas.

Curved interior design

Referencing the female silhouette, curved profiles help to channel this spatial flow from end to end. They take the form of textured panels with rounded contours that soften the straight-edged internal walls, curved corners that conceal plenty of storage and columns, and furniture with rounded designs.

Living room design

In the living room, the eye-catching La Mamma armchair and footstool from B&B Italia make a bold and apt statement. Fabricated from cold stretch polyurethane foam and featuring striped fabric, the designer Gaetano Pesce was inspired by the votive statues of prehistoric goddesses of fertility. The elegant and simple form of the Alanda coffee table, also from B&B Italia, balances the living room ensemble.

Dining room design

As a medley of open-concept zones, it is important that each space has an anchor. For the dining area, part of which used to be the study, a bespoke curved dining table that interlocks with an entertainment island strikes up a dialogue with a Foscarini Big Bang pendant lamp.

Study area

One former bedroom is now the new study area at the end of the progression of spaces. A long, built-in desk on one side takes care of homeowner Jessica’s work needs. A daybed by the window is just the place to chill over a good book, leaving plenty of room in the middle for her yoga. “When guests bring their kids along, this also becomes a children’s play area,” she shares.

Kitchen design

With its somewhat trapezoidal configuration, the kitchen entailed careful space planning to ensure its practicality and efficiency. A sink with a view was on homeowner Jessica’s wish list and interior designer See Wee made it happen.

“The strategic placement of the kitchen sink next to the window elevates the mundane task of washing dishes into an enjoyable one,” interior designer See Wee comments.

Master bedroom design

Created by combining two existing bedrooms, the master suite has a spacious, L-shaped configuration. It exudes an air of serenity and calm with its deep tones and soft hues. An arched headboard continues the curved theme.

Around the corner from the sleeping area is the walk-in wardrobe, which brings together the vanity and master bathroom. Ambient lighting, separate shower and WC compartments, and large format shower wall tiles give the master bathroom hotel-like qualities.

Feminine home design

For interior designer See Wee, this project celebrates the homeowner’s individuality and gives her a home that empowers and inspires. “The design balances femininity and strength to create spaces that are visually striking, yet functional, and which truly reflects Jessica’s unique personality and style,” says See Wee.

Homeowner Jessica moved into her new abode in October 2022 after a six-month renovation. These four words sum up how she feels about her home: “It is very me.” Enough said.
