Home Tour: 6 ways to elevate the design of a home with a view, like this beach front domain in Florida
Less is more when working around the design of a home with a magnificent view.
By Karine Monie -
In this beachfront location in Florida, Monica Slodarz — principal of The Art of Design — found the perfect way to marry laid-back aesthetics with refined details in this stunning example of coastal paradise living. Here are six things the designer did to create the idyllic beach front living space in this ocean view vacation home.
Maximising the ocean views
This sea-facing oceanside vacation pad had to honour the sublime oceanfront views. To achieve this objective, the living room was surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows, inviting the exterior in, and flooding the coastal living space with natural light and ocean breeze. Monica Slodarz, principal at The Art of Design, was responsible for the thoughtful spatial planning of this waterfront residence, and strategically placed custom furniture to create a beachside vacation home that is both intentional and beautiful.
Creating a serene ambience in this seaside apartment
Organic shapes and natural materials were combined with gently curved cane furniture, as well as seashell-inspired home decor and driftwood accents in order to shape a peaceful atmosphere, inviting the inhabitants of this luxury beach apartment to unwind. The seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces is an invitation to contemplate the crashing waves, spot seals and otters, and enjoy the panoramic views from the sun-washed deck.
Opting for light colours for a sense of openness in this harbour view property
In this upscale ocean view residence, whites, creams and grays prevail, acting as the ideal backdrop to the beauty of the surrounding sand dunes and ever-changing ocean hues. "In a beach front setting, where sunlight is abundant, these colours make the interior spaces feel brighter, more welcoming and reduce the need for artificial lighting during daylight hours," says Slodarz. Soft blue touches and hints of seafood green add to the monochrome palette that reflects timeless elegance in this seaside luxury home.
Choosing durable materials with character for this premium coastal real estate
In this ocean front interior design project, natural stone was favoured for being resistant to the coastal environment while warm-toned hardwood floors (such as oak and teak) were incorporated in the flooring, cabinetry and furniture. Soft and breathable fabrics — including linen and cotton for the drapery and bedding — evoke relaxation. Bouclé upholstery on the leather futon and lounge chairs brings a layer of tactile interested and wicker and rattan infuse the beach house with depth. The gourmet kitchen features quartz countertops, European-inspired cabinetry, and a beverage fridge.
Introducing sophistication and pops of colour through the design and artwork
Elevating the overall look of this marine vista condominium came by way of a careful selection of sculptural pieces, furniture and lighting fixtures by Studio Oliver Gustav, Michael Anastassiades, Pierre Yovanovitch and Patricia Urquiola, among many others. These dialogue with artworks by Victor Vasarely, Jose Dávila, Claudia Wieser, Niyoko Ikuta and Sara Genn, to name only a few of the artists that grace the spaces of this designer beach house interior.
Elegant and stylish with just a few daring elements to catch the eye, this high-end waterfront living space offers surprises in every nook, from the spa-like ensuite bathrooms with back-lit mirrors to the tropical wallpaper in the powder room, all in the most cohesive and balanced way.
With its panoramic ocean view, private terrace, fire pit, outdoor kitchen, barbecue area, beach chairs, beach towels, surfboard, boogie boards, sand toys, and surf-centric accents throughout, this luxury beachfront property is the ultimate coastal getaway and a stunning showcase of seaside architectural design.
