In the heart of Kolkata, a stunning 2,800 sq ft residence stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of modern luxury and traditional values. Designed by Pooja Bihani of Spaces and Design, the Rosse Home showcases an innovative approach to multi-generational living, completed in February 2024.
Muted colours set the scene across the living and dining areas in this Kolkata home by Pooja Bihani.
The homeowners, a two-generation business family, sought a space that exuded spaciousness and luxury while catering to their diverse needs. Pooja rose to the challenge, crafting a home that seamlessly integrates contemporary design with classic elegance.
Sliding panels help to open up or close off certain areas when necessary.
Tucked away in a corner is the family den, which can be closed off to create a private guest lounge.
“The name Rosse Home draws inspiration from its signature feature: the unique terracotta-colored Arabiaco marble that infuses warmth throughout the space,” Pooja explains. This distinctive material serves as the cornerstone of the home’s Modern Luxe theme, with its dramatic veins doubling as natural art pieces.
Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a serene foyer featuring a glass-partitioned puja space, defined by sculptural light totems. The heart of the home unfolds in an expansive living-dining area, complemented by an open kitchen to the left—a layout that facilitates family interaction and engagement.
Wood tones bath the open kitchen, providing a relaxing atmosphere in this utilitarian space.

Pooja’s masterful space planning is evident in the fluid circulation between rooms. All living spaces open into the grand central area, with strategically placed glass partitions enhancing the sense of openness while maintaining functional privacy. The den, tucked in the far right corner, exemplifies this versatility, serving as both a cosy family zone and a convertible guest bedroom.
The intricate design extends to the private spaces too, such as in this cosy and luxurious powder room.
The material palette reflects a sophisticated blend of luxury and durability. Arabiaco marble, walnut wood, brushed brass accents, and textured fabrics come together to create a cohesive and opulent environment. A standout feature is the inlay of three different marbles in the living/dining area, forming a rich tapestry of textures and colors.
Detailed wood panelling help to tell the story and encourage visual flow from space to space.
Addressing the challenge of integrating multi-generational preferences, Bihani employed a versatile design approach. Traditional elements are respected and seamlessly incorporated alongside modern features, resulting in a home that speaks to all family members.
Smart space planning solutions abound, from multi-functional furniture to a restrained color palette enhanced by strategic lighting. Long balconies extending from most rooms offer a connection to the outdoors, while layered window coverings provide both privacy and aesthetic appeal.
Lighter colours abound in the bedrooms, creating a calming atmosphere in the resting areas of the home.
The Rosse Home stands as a prime example of how thoughtful design can create a luxurious yet functional living space that caters to the evolving needs of a modern Indian family. It’s a space where each generation can find their comfort zone while coming together in shared areas that foster family bonds.
