This five-room HDB BTO apartment in Clementi has a black-and-white palette.

Designed by the team at Studio Super Safari, this subtle, monochromatic colour choice allows for the homeowners — a couple in their early 30s — to purchase accent pieces of furniture to complement the space, such as a sofa from Scanteak and dining set from Commune.

As the couple enjoys big spatial quality, a full-height mirror was used to clad the doors of the shoe cabinet, while creating the illusion of a larger area. This strategy also allows the homeowners to practice yoga and exercise in front of a mirror too.

Black ceiling beams were added in the living and dining area, which lowers the ceiling height to create a cosier ambience while celebrating the length of the space.

Walls were hacked to make way for a kitchen counter and open-concept kitchen.

The textural feature wall behind the TV adds visual interest to the home.

Styling with soft furnishings like a rug, as well as plants and photographs, adds to the character of the home.

One of the bedrooms were converted into a walk-in wardrobe and study.

The master bathroom is situated opposite the walk-in wardrobe, which adds to the homeowners' convenience.

The total renovation cost amounted to approximately $60,000.
