In the heart of Tiong Bahru, a beloved heritage neighborhood known for its iconic pre-war flats, one couple has masterfully blended modernity with old-world charm. Through a $69,000 renovation helmed by the creative minds at Juxtapose interior design firm, this cozy pre-war flat has been infused with pops of vibrant color and innovative design solutions that maximize every inch of space.

Frosted glass accordion-type folding doors conceal the kitchen, which was kept small as the homeowners opted to sacrifice some kitchen space for a fancier bathroom.

Folding kitchen doors

Creative director Ron Ho and architecture and interior director Jermaine Ng approached the renovation of this compact Tiong Bahru flat with a deft eye for detail. To create an airy, open feel, they incorporated frosted glass accordion-style folding doors to conceal the modest kitchen area. This strategic layout allowed the homeowners to allocate more square footage to an indulgent, spa-like bathroom experience.

"We wanted to breathe new life into this pre-war flat while honoring its heritage," explained Ng. "By using bold color choices and playful textures, we were able to craft an interior that feels both timeless and refreshingly modern."
